The new Climate Change, Extremes, and Natural Hazards in Alpine Regions Research Center (CERC) will officially start work in January 2021. Across six research groups, it will investigate relevant issues arising from climate change, extreme events and natural hazards in alpine regions. The establishment of the research centre is expected to be completed in mid-2021.
The new centre will officially start work at the beginning of January 2021 and will comprise the following research groups:
- Weather and Climate Extremes in Alpine Regions
- Permafrost
- Remote Sensing, Early Detection, and Early Warning
- Alpine Mass Movements
- Mountain Ecology and Protective Forests
- Risk Management, Risk Communication, and Resilience
The CERC will be run by the Canton of Grisons and the Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) and will be supported by ETH Zurich. It will have 40 members of staff in total, entailing various new appointments at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF).
