Estremi meteorologici e climatici nella regione alpina

Le condizioni meteorologiche e climatiche estreme, come le forti precipitazioni o le ondate di calore, stanno aumentando con il riscaldamento globale. Nella regione alpina, in particolare, hanno il potenziale di innescare crisi sociali ed economiche, ad esempio se portano a un aumento dei rischi naturali o causano danni maggiori rispetto al passato. Il CERC contribuisce a una migliore comprensione di questi fenomeni estremi e dei pericoli a loro legati, e a trovare soluzioni per mitigarli o gestirli a beneficio della società.

Compound Eco-Hydrological eXtremes (CompEHX)

The CompEHX project aims to understand the occurrence, development, and temporal changes of compound extremes in ecological and hydrological systems, with a particular focus on mountain regions.

Riverine heatwaves under climate change

Extremely high river water temperatures introduce thermal stress to aquatic species and reduce the thermal cooling efficiency of power plants, in particular if they persist over time. Despite the potentially severe impacts of such river heatwaves, there exists limited understanding of their occurrence, drivers, future changes, and impacts. The objective of this project is to fill this research gap and improve our understanding of riverine heatwaves in the Alps and Europe.

Synchronous forest fires in Europe under current and future climate conditions (SynFire)

This project aims to identify the occurrence, hydro-climatic drivers and future changes of synchronous forest fires in Europe.

Hydrological ensemble for high- and low-flows in Switzerland (Hydro-SMILE)

This project quantifies changes in high-end droughts and floods and their uncertainty for hydrological Switzerland in a warming climate by generating a hydrological Single Model Initial condition Large Ensemble (SMILE).

Consecutive drought-flood events in a warming world

This project aims to enhance our understanding of rapid drought-flood transitions in a warming world.
